NZEE Human Rights Framework

This is simplified version of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

The UDHR was campaigned for by New Zealand during the 1940s, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 10 December 1948, and reaffirmed by the world’s governments in 1993, 2000 and 2005.

Ensuring you protect personal data you collect from your employees and limit who can have access to it. The NZ Privacy Act 2020 has 13 privacy principles that govern how you should collect, handle and use personal information.

It is important that not all “child work” is child labour. Many children in NZ work. They key here is to ensure any work a child does, does not interfere in their education or have their childhood.

Forced labour and human trafficking are often grouped together today under the heading of “Modern Slavery”, a condition estimated to affect some 28 million people globally according to the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

All workplaces need to provide a safe working environment. That goes beyond health and safety measures and requires a consideration of other, often intangible issues that can make a workplace “unsafe” for an individual. These intangibles are often behavioral and can impact different people differently which precludes a “one size fits all response”.

As with the law, the NZEE Human Rights policy recognises the importance of employees, and anyone else visiting a work site, to be free from harm.

Our NZEE Human Rights policy reflects the rights by respecting your employees’ right to join, or not join, a trade union.

This is an area of well elaborated legal requirements in NZ, so ensuring that you are operating in accordance with those laws, you will have gone a long way to meeting the expectations of this policy provision.

Diversity and inclusion lie at the heart of human rights. It is about respect of “self” and of others. This provision in the NZEE human rights policy reflects the reality that everyone is in some way different from everyone else. That is what makes us unique individuals.

Respect for human rights is one of the core values of NZEE, that respect goes beyond the immediate workplace, it extends out into the communities in which we live
