A Global Individual Responsibility

Welcome to the final issue of 2022. We wake up sharing the planet with 8 billion other people. Sustainability of our global home is an individual responsibility. This month we look at ways we can each make a contribution.

The 74th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights will be celebrated on 10 December 2022. I (attempt) to explain what ‘human rights’ are, why they are important, and how they are relevant to us here in NZ today.

We take a closer look at piece rates, and deductions from wages, two tricky aspects of employment. What does best practice look like?

The new bargaining system established through the Government's Fair Pay Agreement (FPA) legislation comes into effect today. Who will be the first industries in the spotlight?

Take a look at the first independent report on the state of wellbeing in New Zealand. Te Tai Waiora: Wellbeing in Aotearoa New Zealand 2022. Where are we doing well, and where are we failing?

Final, as we head into the festive season, from our whanau to yours, keep safe and enjoy some time off with friends and family. (Quick tip: if you feel yourself getting anxious or too stressed out - breathe in for 3 seconds, out for 3 seconds, three times)
